How to Invoice International Clients and Get Paid Across Borders
International invoicing adds decisions about currency, payment rails, conversion, bank references, stablecoin networks, and tax documentation. The goal is not to display every possible method. It is to give the client a small set of accurate options that can settle to the sender's supported destination.
Choose the invoice currency before work starts
Price the project in a currency both parties understand and document that currency in the proposal or contract. Clarify whether the client must deliver the exact invoice amount or whether bank and conversion fees can be deducted.
The invoice currency and settlement currency do not always need to be the same, but any conversion should be handled through an eligible, disclosed route. Do not leave the payer to guess an exchange rate.
Include internationally useful details
Use complete sender and client names and addresses. Depending on the transaction, the invoice may also need a tax identifier, registration number, purchase-order reference, service period, country of supply, or tax treatment.
Rules vary by jurisdiction and transaction type. An invoice generator can organize the information, but it cannot determine your legal or tax obligations.
Select a compatible payment route
ACH is generally relevant to supported USD payments in the United States, while SEPA supports eligible EUR transfers. Wires can be useful for other bank payments. Stablecoins may suit a client that already holds the exact supported token on the required network.
Present provider-generated instructions for the specific invoice. Account numbers, IBANs, wallet addresses, network names, memos, and deposit messages must be copied accurately.
Reconcile the final settlement
Record the original invoice total, amount sent, processing or network fee, amount settled, settlement currency, provider reference, and completion date. These fields explain differences between the receivable and the final balance.
Wait for provider confirmation before marking the invoice paid. A transfer screenshot or on-chain transaction submission can show intent, but it may not establish final or correctly attributed settlement.
